550-VP: 550 Paracord Vacuum Packed

There are many ways to carry cord - stuff it in bag, pocket, wear it on your wrist etc.

This method allows you to carry a continuous 20ft length of genuine US Gov/Contractor 550 Paracord ready for immediate deployment.

It is packed in a vacuum sealed puncture resistant, air and water tight bag. To access the cord you remove the top of the bag via the tear notch.

Because it’s vacuum packed it takes up even less room making it ideal when size and weight constraints apply.

The compressed 550 cord measures 3 inches x 3 inches.

Hidden In Plain Sight- Hat

I wear a hat most of the time. masterofnil showed hiding a few essentials in headgear designed to aid this. I looked at my own regular humble headgear with the aim of secreting items.

The seam from manufacture is turned inwards for comfort so I took a simple sleeve and stitched it in on one end. I made sure I didn’t go through to the visible side that may give any one a clue. A stainless steel split pawl shim was slipped in and a simple stitched loop was put in to secure. The seam was just folded back in and there is no sign of change to the hat. You cant feel it when you wear it either.

A handcuff key was slipped into the rear seam and stood up into the bunched material, once again secured with an easy to remove stitch to secure. You can’t see it or feel it!

A big thankyou to Masterofnil for the idea.

Looks good buddy!

Layering in tools in mundane items, hopefully gives us more options without creating large risk of discovery.

Photo by @paleyphoto (Matthieu Paley). Isak takes a break on a hunt. I am leaving #Hadza land… Hard to go but thanks to a grant, I will be back to #Tanzania in November/December to further document this amazing community. Hadza are full time #hunter-gatherer - they do not practice agriculture, herd animals or even store any food. When they get up early morning, there is nothing to eat in camp. They just head out in the savannah and feed from nature. It’s a #lifestyle we all had thousands of years ago - you too, reading this! The Hadza have been living in this area for approximately 40.000 years and have left no impact on their environment. This is part 7, the last part of my @natgeo story on the “Evolution of Diet” coming out in September. Electrical Taping Skills: A Lost Art?

Carrying a roll of electrical tape is not always practical if you are packing light and space is limited (SAWC: Size And Weight Constraints).

Wrapping some tape around an EDC item is a good way of carrying it. The Go-Tube will take just over 100cm of tape to maintain a flush fit with the end caps. Select quality tape if you can source it and avoid the cheapo stuff as it tends to get sticky when warm.

The following link provides some good tips:

valleydeepmountainhigh: Under Armour Tactical Gale Force...

valleydeepmountainhigh:

Under Armour Tactical Gale Force Jacket

Another product I have been fortunate enough to test from the good people at http://ift.tt/1nm4B7S is this fantastic Tactical Gale Force jacket from Under Armour.

Offered in a full loose fit, it not only offered a great range of movement but also allowed for good layering underneath.

Made from their 3 layer fabric it has a good DWR coating and is also windproof.

Under armour’s moisture transport system works very well and does a good job of wicking sweat and moisture away.

One feature I loved about this jacket was the ripstop fabric in the high wear areas such as the cuffs and shoulders. Fitted with 2 hand warmer pockets, 2 document chest pockets and a bicep pocket there is a great amount of storage. There is also a good area of hook and loop on the sleeve for all your patches. Another handy feature was the interior media ports for earphones or comms cables.

Its simplistic design means that this Jacket is easily suited for wear around the town as well as out on the hills. The high cut neck means there is good wind protection and helps eliminate water down the inside if you are caught short in the rain.

Another great point to note is that this garment washes really well, something that can sometimes allow some gear to fall short on. It is also remarkably fast drying.

All in all, this is a great affordable jacket that works great as a standalone item, or used as part of your layering system.

I have said in the past that originally I was not a big fan of Under Armour gear, but after trying some of their products, I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

A big thank you to those at Top of the Range for making this review possible.

Stay safe,

VDMH
