In the shadowy world of espionage a dead drop refers to a method of passing information between two people using a secret location that doesn’t require them to ever meet directly. Here’s a geekstastic project inspired by that cloak-and-dagger sneakiness that’ll have you scrutinizing the walls of every building in your city. In 2010 Berlin-based media artist Aram Bartholl started the Dead Drops project, an anonymous, offline public file-sharing network comprised of USB flash drives discretely embedded into walls, buildings and even curbs in New York. Here’s how it works:
"Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is open to participation. If you want to install a dead drop in your city/neighborhood follow the ‘how to’ instructions and submit the location and pictures.”Bartholl’s Dead Drops project began as part of the Talk to Me group exhibition at the MOMA, which ran from July to November in 2011. The public response was so enthusiastic that Bartholl created a Dead Drops website and now anyone can share files with anyone else in perfect anonymity and secrecy that even the likes of James Bond might enjoy.

Just a quick update on the SEAL Team SIX Recovery Kit I got from law66.
The bobby pins and shim were packaged together in a plastic bag with the cuff key. This created bulk when everything shuffled together. The bulk would make dents in the outer bag.
To fix this, I put the pins and shim onto a piece of quick release masking tape, holding them flat. I also taped the cuff key and ceramic razor to the inside of the bag, so they wouldn’t fall out. This makes the bag much flatter and easier to carry in a pocket or pouch. It also makes it easier for me to ditch the metal, while still retaining non metallic items. If you need a pin or the shim, you can easily access one and not lose the others.
Just my $.02.
This is one of the reasons why the vinyl wallet was so important. I often use a length of sleeve to keep things flat internally and lose the outlines. What ever works best for you and how you carry is the perfect answer. I just wanted to suggest other options for people
Another suggestion is to tape items with PTFE plumbers tape to break down the feel and outline, ideal for concealing in seams of clothing or dulling down sharp edges to make them safer to carry in raw form

No, but think about this.
The crows she feeds obviously have their own little lives. They go about their business, and they spot *pretty thing* or /unique thing/ in question. What gets me is that the *first* thing on their minds as recipient of this thing is the little girl that feeds them.
They spot a thing, and immediately must think, “that nice girl with delicious foodstuffs must have this to show my gratitude.”
It’s actually more than that, though, if you read the articles or watch the videos. This has taken place over YEARS- it started with these birds following this little girl around because she was a messy eater and it has turned into a ritual for the family. They have a water station and food stations where they daily set out things for these birds and sometimes (but not always), these birds leave ‘payment’ behind for the food.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
These birds are not just taking food and leaving shinies. These birds are watching over this family now. Their lives have become involved. These crows are keeping track of this girl and her mother even when they are out of the yard. How do we know?
One of them is a photographer, and one day while she was photographing some stuff on a bridge, she dropped her camera’s lenscap over the edge. There was no way she could get it back, so she left it. When she got home, the lenscap was sitting on the edge of one of the feeding stations, waiting for her.
Not only were the birds following and watching over her, they were smart enough to realize she dropped an Important Thing and cared enough to bring it back to her.

Its a good idea to designate someone back home as a security measure to receive this info in case something happens. If you have a trusted local contact even better (better to have two options). *Try and sit behind the driver with your bag next to you. If shit goes down exit carefully and use the traffic to your advantage ( test the locks on it just in case, just say you are looking for the window switch). At times I have used apps such as find my phone, and allowing others to access gps tracking apps for just the same reasons. You do need to keep the phone out of sight so it does not get taken or compromised

UK Puts Hundreds of Thousands of Innocent People in Facial Recognition Database
British police have loaded 18 million faces into a facial recognition database, including the mugs of “hundreds of thousands of individuals who have never been charged with, let alone convicted of, an offence.” That interesting datum was first reported last month by the BBC, and confirmed a few weeks ago by a parliamentary report. That’s a revelation that should be of concern not only to Britons, but to citizens of a certain republic on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean where intrusive and fallible facial recognition technology has been embraced by the authorities with an enthusiasm rivaling that in the UK.In February, the BBC’s Nick Hopkins and Jake Morris revealed:
Police forces in England and Wales have uploaded up to 18 million “mugshots” to a facial recognition database - despite a court ruling it could be unlawful.
They include photos of people never charged, or others cleared of an offence, and were uploaded without Home Office approval, Newsnight has learned.
Photos of “hundreds of thousands” of innocent people may be on the database, an independent commissioner said.
The database complies with the Data Protection Act, police insisted.
Biometrics Commissioner Alastair MacGregor QC said he was concerned about the implications of the system for privacy and civil liberties.
How many mugshots? And of innocent people? What?
That information turned out to be a leak from an extensive report prepared by members of Parliament for the House of Commons Science and Tchnology Committee on the use, misuse, and undirected adoption of biometric technology by the UK government. In the case of facial recognition, the above-mentioned Alastair MacGregor is quoted as noting the hoovering up of hundreds of thousands of apparently innocent—or at least not obviously guilty—people into the Police National Database. That hoovering came courtesy of a bit of a legal oversight.
Compounding this confusion was an apparent ‘gap’ in the legislation regarding the retention of images, and the use of facial recognition software, by the police. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) stated that the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 “does not cover photographs” and that there was “no specific legislation covering their retention or their use”.
Nobody told the cops they couldn’t load every snapshot they got their hands on into the system, so they did.
If all of this sounds a bit familiar, it should. Last year we found out that America’s own FBI plans to load 52 million of our mugs into own Next Generation Identification database. That’s in addition to roughly 120 million snaps stored in independent (for now) state databases. The ACLU’s Jennifer Lynch warned at that time that the sourcing for some of those shots was a bit vague, raising the very real possibility of innocent people being entered into the system for a permanent role in police lineups.
Which is a bit disturbing when you consider that FBI specs allow for tagging “an incorrect candidate a maximum of 20% of the time.”
British parliamentarians also fret about just who has access to all of that sensitive biometric data. The report noted that “the more agencies and organisations that have access to an individual’s biometric information, the greater the likelihood that this information will be used for another purpose beyond that for which it was originally collected.”
But Americans are way ahead of the UK there. Two years ago, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine quietly added facial recognition capability to the state’s store of photographs, and then handed access to 30,000 of his friends. What could go wrong? Oh.
