Photo: @ladzinski Caption: @andrewbisharat — After rappelling down into the 1,500-foot Verdon Gorge of southern France, there is always a huge sense of commitment as you now have to climb back out. Storm cycles in this region move incredible fast, often blasting in from the south, laden with moisture from the Mediterranean. When you’re a climber stuck on big wall, it can be difficult to see the storms approaching from the other side. In fact, lightning is the number-one cause of death for climbers here. Today, we were lucky and reached the car just as the downpour began. On the drive back, we stopped at a copse of olive trees and captured this moment as the sunset peeked through the storms. #VerticalOrigins @etteloc @emilyaharrington @mattsegal @3stringsproductions #onassignment by natgeo
